ALPHA RADIO 103.2 JEFF WINTER FOOTBALL SHOWS 01325 255555 4-8-08

Well folks, those were the very first shows of the season. I hope you enjoyed them.

I am always open to suggestions as to how we can improve content. I am also keen to hear your views, especially live on air. So don't be shy, give me a ring from 6-7 every Saturday evening on 01325 25 55 55 or email the show.

To keep up to date with all of my other columns, visit my website.

The lunchtime show featured interviews with both Darlo manager Dave Penney and Director David Jones.

Our guest for On The Spot featured livewire striker Greg Blundell. His music to get him in the mood for match day action was "Somebody Told Me" by the Killers.

During the course of the season, I will be putting more players, and also fans, on the spot. So if you fancy doing a quick recorded interview with me, please get in touch.

As you can see from the website, we have developed a relationship with The Great Air Ambulance and William Hill. The bookies are giving me a series of Charity bets to try and make money for a very worthwhile cause.

I was amazed to find out that this is a Charity that receives no public funding. At Durham Tees Valley, they need to raise £1.2million each year to provide a vital service that helps save lives every day of the week.

Each Saturday at 1.15 pm, I catch up with the boys from William Hill and I place my bets. These will appear on my website each preceding Wednesday so you can join me in having a flutter if you wish.

For fun they usually "tip" a couple of horses too. On Saturday they gave us one loser and one that finished third at 9/1. So if you backed that one each way you would not have lost any money.

On the phone-in, I had special guests reviewing the forthcoming season. We had Scott Thornberry from Darlo Uncovered, Steve Goldby from ComeOnBoro.com and FansOnline.net and also legendary Poolie fan Bert, who tries to get into the Guinness Book of Records by saying the word " like" as many times in a sentence as is physically possible, "like".

Apart from sensible points of view, there was the usual banter, especially between Scott and Bert. They also all gave their opinions about Joey Barton.

If you missed the show, why? However you can catch up with the podcast by clicking here.

Another subject of interest, especially to Scott and myself, was the "odd" behaviour of Alan White in Darlo's friendly against St.Mirren. I will be covering that in greater detail in my column for Darlo Uncovered later this week.

Across the two shows, we had match day tickets and meals to give away. The Carvery for two at the Darlington Arena was won by Bailey Bowes from Darlington who played Jeff's Meat and Two Veg. He sorted the meat from the veg by saying that Spain was the country that not only won Euro 2008 but also provided the Wimbledon champ.

The Half-Time Entertainment slot for a Meal for Two at a Jo Rigatonis of your choice was won by Shaun Lawson, again from Darlington, who worked out that "Free" by Ultra Nate was with reference to Joey Barton's release from the slammer.

We had tickets to give away for this Saturday's opening day games at Darlington v Exeter and Pools v Colchester. The questions were easy and it provoked tons of entries.

Gary won the Darlo tickets for knowing that Exeter play their home games at St. James' Park and Bert won the Pools tickets for knowing that Colchester have just left Layer Road for their brand new stadium.

This week I will be at Darlo twice, first to see the friendly against Boro and then for the big kick off on Saturday

On air this weekend, as well as the chance to win the meals, we will also have two tickets up for grabs for Boro v Spurs on August 16.

Make sure that you join in and give me a call on Saturday evening.
