ALPHA RADIO 103.2 JEFF WINTER FOOTBALL SHOWS 01325 255555 11-8-08

Hi folks, well we are up and running.
Darlo showed much promise but then succumbed to a sucker punch with a lack of concentration on a cross from a free kick. In fairness though, a draw was just about a fair result.
Down the 689, Pools got off to a flyer with a 4-2 thumping of much fancied, big spending Colchester.
One down side of the afternoon were the two attendances. More about that, I am sure, throughout the season.
The lunchtime show featured interviews with both Darlo manager Dave Penney and also club captain Steve Foster, who was also my guest for On The Spot. Steve's music to get him in the mood for match day action was "She Bangs The Drum" by The Stone Roses.
During the course of the season, I will be putting more players and also fans on the spot. So if you fancy doing a quick recorded interview with me, please get in touch.
As you can see from the website, we have developed a relationship with The Great Air Ambulance and William Hill. The bookies are giving me a series of Charity bets to try and make money for a very worthwhile cause.
I was amazed to find out that this is a Charity that receives no public funding. At Durham Tees Valley, they need to raise £1.2million each year to provide a vital service that helps save lives every day of the week.
Each Saturday at 1.15 pm, I catch up with the boys from William Hill and I place my bets. These will appear on my website each preceding Wednesday so you can join me in having a flutter if you wish.
This week, I was close to a winning double for Darlo and Pools.
Next week it gets more difficult as Boro come into action and I have to get three results correct.
It's always difficult to get the scores correct but financially more rewarding if you do. I had Pools 2-1, Darlo 3-2 and Manchester United to win the Community Shield 2-1. Here's hoping for better luck next weekend.
For fun they usually "tip" a couple of horses. On Saturday they gave us a winner, Favourite Girl, which I took at 5/1. Unfortunately, the "female" double did not materialise when Beautiful Lady was not placed. But if you backed them both, you would still have been in front.
On the Phone-In, I had special guests reviewing the forthcoming season.
Andy Smith from the Darlo Supporters Club reminded fans that tickets for travel on the Supporters Club's buses can be booked in the Tin-Shed at every home game or by ringing 01325 243911. With the cost of fuel nowadays, it is usually far cheaper to go on the bus.
We also had Neil an elated Poolies, Chris and Peter who are Boro fans and we also caught up with Darlo manager Dave Penney.
Boro's lack of an experienced goalkeeper is still causing concern. We also discussed the farcical friendly between Darlo trialists and Boro babes.

Across the two shows, we had match day tickets and meals to give away. The Carvery For Two at the Darlington Arena was won by Darren from Darlington who played Jeff's Meat and Two Veg. He sorted out that the meat was the fact that Adam Johnson scored two goals for Boro in the friendly against Darlo. He listens to the show whilst delivering Chinese meals around the town.
The Half-time Entertainment slot for a Meal for Two at a Jo Rigatonis restaurant of your choice was won by Linda from Darlington who worked out that "Here I Go Again" by Whitesnake was with reference to the start of the new season.
We had tickets to give away for this Saturday's opening Premier League game between Boro and Spurs. There were many, many entries but Jean from Newton Aycliffe won the tickets for knowing that the player who left Boro in acrimonious circumstances to join a north-west team before moving on to Spurs was Christian Ziege. Incidentally, he was the last player I ever sent off in the Premier League.
This week I will be at Pools on Tuesday for their Carling Cup tie against Scunthorpe and at the Boro on Saturday.
On air this weekend, as well as the chance to win the meals, we will also have two tickets up for grabs for both the Darlo v Gillingham and Pools v Stockport games on 23/8.
Make sure that you tune in and give me a call on Saturday evening.
