ALPHA RADIO 103.2 JEFF WINTER FOOTBALL SHOWS 01325 255555 18-8-08

It is three games unbeaten for Darlo, Boro are off to a flyer but Hartlepool started their away campaign with another bout of travel sickness. Pools apart, it was the end of a very good first week of the season.
The ironic thing is that Darlo would have been better off points wise with a win and a defeat rather than two draws but I am sure that Dave Penney is more than happy with a clean sheet away from home.
I have now seen all three of the region's sides in the first week of the season and have every reason to be confident that we are in for a successful nine months.
Gareth Southgate defied the critics and stuck to his guns. His aim of attacking, entertaining football was certainly evident against Spurs.
The lunchtime show featured interviews with Darlo Manager Dave Penney, Hartlepool boss Danny Wilson and Boro's Gareth Southgate and captain Mani Pogatetz.
Pav Abbott was my guest for On the Spot. Pav's music to get him in the mood for match day action was "Toca's Miracle" by Fragma.
During the course of the season, I will be putting more players and also fans on the spot. So if you fancy doing a quick recorded interview with me, please get in touch.
As you can see from the website, we have developed a relationship with The Great Air Ambulance and William Hill. The bookies are giving me a series of Charity bets to try and make money for a very worthwhile cause.
I was amazed to find out that this is a Charity that receives no public funding. At Durham Tees Valley, they need to raise £1.2million each year to provide a vital service that helps save lives every day of the week.
Each Saturday at 1.15 pm, I catch up with the boys from William Hill and I place my bets. These will appear on my website each preceding Wednesday so you can join me in having a flutter if you wish.
This weekend I tipped Boro to win, Darlo to win and Pools to draw. One out of three is not good enough when you have to get all three correct to collect.
My correct score singles fared no better. I had Boro to win 3-2, Darlo 2-1 and Pools to draw 2-2. Coupled with that our horse racing tips let us down as well. What is it they say about a fool and his money?! Here's hoping for better luck next weekend.
On the Phone-In, we had Craig Stoddart from the Northern Echo and also Chris, another Darlo fan, who were both on their way home from Notts County.
I hope that I can encourage more of you to contact me after games. It's the opinions of the true fans that I want.
Bob, who had been to watch Pools at Tranmere, and Geoff from the Boro supporters group The Twe12th Man, along with David Craig from Sky Sports News made up the cast for a busy show. We also had the hilarious clip of Steve McClaren talking "Dutch".
Listen to the podcast to hear it again.
Don't forget that the Darlington Supporters Club will be running buses to both Watford 26/8 and Macclesfield 30/8. Seats can be booked in the Tin-Shed next Saturday before the Gillingham game or by ringing 01325 243911. With the cost of fuel nowadays, it is usually far cheaper to go on the bus.
I was most disappointed that my plea for fans who no longer go to games to contact me fell on deaf ears. Apathy rules ok.

To the competitions and across the two shows we had match day tickets and meals to give away.
The carvery for two at the Darlington Arena was won by Marie from Darlington who played Jeff's Meat and Two Veg and sorted out that the meat was the fact that Mark Clattenburg was the ref who was dropped for the Community Shield.
The Half-time Entertainment slot for a Meal for Two at a Jo Rigatonis restaurant of your choice was won by Bailey from Darlington who worked out that "Respect" by Aretha Franklin was with reference to the campaign for players to behave better with referees.
We had tickets to give away for this Saturday's games at Darlo and Pools. Mick won tickets for Darlo v Gillingham for knowing that Gillingham come from Kent and Bob won the Pools tickets for the Stockport game for correctly knowing that their opponents next Saturday beat Rochdale in last season's play-off final.
Next Saturday I will be at the Darlo game, so if you see me pop up and say hello.
On air this weekend, as well as the chance to win the meals, we will also have two tickets up for grabs for the Boro v Stoke game on 30/8.
Make sure that you tune in and give me a call on Saturday evening.
I hope that you enjoy the shows. I am always open to suggestions as to how we can improve their content and keen to hear your views, especially live on air.
