JEFF AND TFM PART COMPANY - YOUR RESPONSES - PART THREE 18-6-08
Following the announcement of TFM severing ties with Jeff, there has been plenty of response regarding the decision from disgruntled fans.
Here is the third part of the correspondence Jeff has received.
From: Lisa and Tommy
Well I think it's a bloody shame that you are not going to be on the air on a Saturday - it will not be the same.
They will soon want you back when no one is listening ha ha.
Keep in touch.
Also, Tommy is doing really well. His first operation is on the 7th of October and it looks like we may just about be at the target so fingers crossed.
Hope you're well.
Thanks
Lisa & Tommy, x
Jeff's reply
It's great to hear from you Lisa. Apart from the fun/work on air, I really did enjoy being an Ambassador for TFM's Make a Child Smile/Cash for Kids.
As long as I don't get another job with another local radio station, there is nothing to stop me helping the Charity in the future. I really hope that Tommy gets his operation and everything goes successfully.
Give me a ring and we can have a coffee sometime.
Best Wishes
Jeff

From: John
I am so sad to hear of your sacking at TFM.
Regards, John
Jeff's reply
"Sacking" is a bit harsh John. They were happy with the shows but my contract had expired and they could not afford to renew it due to budget controls by the new owners.
But life goes on. Keep in touch via my web site, www.jeffwinter.co.uk.

Good riddance Mr Winter, TFM have made a good choice by giving you the sack. You were a bully and it finally caught up with you.
Davy
Jeff's reply

Hi mate, what's the score? We listen every Saturday, why the axe? It just doesn't make sense.
Fletch, when the red, red robin
Jeff's reply
It's all about money mate, credit crunch and all that. Economies don't always make sense and they are usually false. But hey ho life goes on. Thanks for all your input and support over the years. Keep in touch via my web site, www.jeffwinter.co.uk.

From: Peter Owen
Hi Jeff
It certainly is TFM's loss because they had a Premiership platform to build on, which happens to be a one-off in every aspect.
The fans these days want to hear it from the ref because the other lot talk total crap and bore!
When Howard Webb pointed to the spot of late, it was typical of thick Shearer to bring the Premiership into the conversation.
Adjustment is the word he lacks because every major field has their designer whistles.
Finally, someone's loss is always someone's gain at your height, so may they bring it on!
Cheers
Peter
Jeff's reply
There have been many advantages in being a "former" Premier League referee and I have benefited from them.
However the disadvantage is that you are labeled as a "former" ref and that is all people see you as. Former players can be pundits and presenters but "former" refs are only called upon to try and justify perceived poor decisions.
TFM had given me the opportunity to present, produce and be involved in all aspects of the game. They, like many others before them, have reacted to finance and realized that playing music is a far cheaper option than having "talk" radio.
I fear that I may not have opportunities in the future similar to the ones I had at TFM, despite how popular my shows were, because I am not a "former" player but I am a "former" ref.
A lot of people want to hear the ref's point of view but only when it suits and when it is related to refereeing. The old school tie works very well in football if you played the game.
Best wishes
Jeff
