DARLINGTON - QUESTIONS FORM THE DARLO FANS 28-8-08
Scott has asked for you to send in any questions you want to pose to me and here are my responses to this week's queries.
Question One
Hi Jeff
Don't know if you remember me but I am an Aussie Darlo fan. Almost a year ago I wrote to you about my struggles in getting myself a Darlington Kit. You responded and said you would get in contact with Jon Sotnick. Unfortunately Sotnick left sometime later and I never got a response.
Fast forward to the new season and same issue. I have emailed and rung the club about trying to get a Darlo kit. I am happy to pay the price and extra shipping to get it to Sydney Australia, but I can not get in contact with ANYONE who wished to help me.
I know I live 000s of miles away and I am well aware that I don't hold a season ticket. The flip side is that I stay up listening to radio commentary til 3am every Sunday and I have to watch highlights and the occasional game on my laptop. It doesn't make me any less of a fan. I just want a freakin kit!!!
Is there anything you could do to help?
Also - I can't seem to find your book in Australia. Don't suppose you could give me the name of the Aussie distributor as I would love to read it!!
Kind Regards
Ryan Stabler

Now let's get the important issue sorted first. How to buy my book!!!!
Seriously though, I cannot believe that you have not been able to get a Darlo shirt. I only wish that some of the locals were as keen as you are. Please let me know your size and confirm your address and I will personally contact the club to get you one ordered and sent out to you. I have copied the club in on this correspondence and will let you know what they have to say about payment etc.
With regard to my book, if you go onto the relevant section of my website, (click here) you can order one there, I will personalise it and get it posted out to you.
Keep supporting the team from afar, keep up to date with the fans views on the excellent darlouncovered website.
Best Wishes
Jeff
Question Two
Hi Jeff,
Just in from the Darlo match, can't believe how bad the performance was today, we played well first half and created a few chances but Gillingham were a very physical side, and bossed us out of the game quite a lot, I thought a draw would of been a fair result, but to lose right at the end..again, why does that always happen?
Also, the Ref today I thought had a shocker, you could tell he was from the Conference Jeff, looked very edgy and made a few rash decisions, should have had more than the single penalty.
The new lad Burgmeier came on about 55 minutes and looked a very good addition
to the squad, though didn't get the ball much.
I can't see where the goals are coming from Jeff, again Proudlock and Clarke both had good games but only Clarke managed to have a shot today.
In the end I thought we gave a very poor performance from the standards they showed against Exeter and Notts County.
Will be listening to the Watford game on Tuesday night, where I have a feeling we could come out of that game with a result. Not going to Macclesfield unfortunately, but will be going down to Aldershot the week after.
Thanks Jeff

Jeff's reply
As against Exeter, Darlo enjoyed a good first 20 minutes, but once again failed to turned their early superiority into a goal or two. You are quite right about Gillingham, they all looked about 6 foot six and were far too physical for what is a very lightweight Darlo side.
Darlington, like Boro and Hartlepool seem to have this habit of losing concentration and the number of goals conceded in the last couple of minutes is alarming. As a game progresses players and officials become more tired and mistakes are more likely to occur, this is something I am sure that Dave Penney is working on.
The Watford game once again provided a disappointing climax, a long trip home after an extra unproductive thirty minutes sets of a whole list of possible excuses if the side fail to perform at Macclesfield.
Apart from winning the penalty Burgmeier did see very little of the ball, so it is too early to judge yet.
I agree that the Ref did show inexperience, I would not say that he had a shocker though. When a player is introduced in the Football league, it takes time for him to adjust and get the confidence to perform consistently well, it is no different with a young referee. He needed to be stronger and did over react in booking Ricky Ravenhill. Being where Darlo are in the League they will always be likely to get newer Refs but that is no excuse for them not winning.
Macclesfield now looks a big game and the team need to start scoring and getting stuck in, on Saturday I kept thinking Tommy Wright!!!
Best wishes
Jeff
