So that’s it then - another season over and done with.
Safety has been assured with one game to go and Sunday sees the opportunity to watch the players and wonder just how many of them will be around next season.
We could and should have been looking forward to next weekend's FA Cup Final but all that is now history. However some fans will remember that lost opportunity for a long time.
It is somewhat surprising that with the added flair to the side and pace in some areas, we have not managed to score more than two goals in any League game this season. Perhaps we might get a final day flourish.
God knows what the minds of the Man City players and supporters will be like as they contemplate change again following the strong rumours about Sven getting the chop.
The activities in boardrooms this season, especially at those clubs with foreign owners, have been nothing short of amazing. I think we sometimes forget just how lucky we are to have a chairman who really does care about the club and the fans.
Talking of fans, it would appear that the disgraceful actions of the Northumbrian Police at the Wear/Tees derby are to go away without further comment.
I have gone into this matter at greater length on my website as I have answered letters from many appalled supporters.
The actions of the police at the railway station could have caused a tragedy and I thought such stupidity was confined to Roma’s finest.
I applaud the local magistrate who brought the facts to the attention of the media and perhaps some people will now start to believe that not all football supporters are animals and perhaps they will stop being treated as such.
I have experience of all sides in this issue, having been on the terraces myself as a teenager, sat as a local magistrate and seen and heard what still goes on.
The courts have been empowered with sanctions that are far more severe with football related incidents than they are with any other aspect of trouble.
We have seen the ridiculous arrests for a fan sleeping at a game and many other ejections from grounds for actions far less serious than what is seen in every town centre on a Friday night.
A bind over or a caution for non-football related incidents is matched by a three year banning order for any alleged actions in a football related incident.
I know that the “English Disease” had to be tackled but surely we are now using a sledgehammer to crack an egg as once again football fans are an easy target.
Sit down, shut up, don’t smoke, don’t drink and don’t let off steam. The enjoyment of going to football is being eroded for those who can still afford to go.
This needs to be addressed and changes made but there is as much chance of that happening as getting goal line technology in place.
I would love to think that with continued media action created by genuine supporters, the police chiefs might just apologise and concede that their intimadatory tactics prior to the game at the Stadium Of Light were, with reflection, a tad too severe.
But then there is as much chance of that happening as refs getting every decision correct!!
Looking forward to the last game of the season, it brings back memories of the final game against City when Mark Schwarzer’s last minute penalty save sent us into Europe.
Tomorrow may well see his last action in a Boro shirt. It will be interesting to watch the players' actions as they embark on their now customary “lap of honour”. Remember Viduka?
One thing is for sure, whatever the players choose to do, the fans will be back, despite the rules, regulations and treatment.
It is difficult to know what frame of mind the players will be on Sunday so I am sitting on the fence and predicting an entertaining testimonial style goal scoring draw.
I also think that Darlington will take a lead from their first leg play-off semi final against Rochdale.
If these predictions are correct then thanks to our friends at William Hill, we will make some money for TFM Radio’s charity Make a Child Smile.
We are on air tomorrow with Soccer Saturday from 12 until 2, when there will be another chance for Boro fans to win home shirts for the 2008/09 season, white band and all.
