POOLS SEASON PREVIEW 30-7-08
Here we go again - another new season and hopefully Poolies will be up for it.
The apathy shown towards the Centenary Tournament was somewhat understandable. Only a couple of new signings and opposition that hardly whetted the appetite meant a pathetic turnout.
With many people on holiday and with the cost of the tickets, then the club must surely have expected low attendances. If they didn't, they will certainly have had a rude awakening.
I think football fans are becoming a lot more choosy on how they spend their hard-earned and with two home games in four days mid-month in August, many made the decision to wait for the real thing.
I know some fans are still not behind the manager and therefore a good start is essential so that the dissenters don't grow.
The vicious circle that is football is about to begin. Confidence from a good start will increase attendances and perhaps a push for the playoffs is possible.
However, a poor start and the fans will stay away and the moaners will be out in force.
Whatever happens, I will be around to answer your questions and give you my opinions.
You are probably aware that I have left TFM as they have reviewed their on air content and their budget could not run to continuing with the very successful sports shows I was involved with.
Having spoken to other local broadcasters I have joined Aplha (yes, in Darlington) but fully intend to make Hartlepool part of my shows. I hope that Poolies will continue to phone in and listen.
