HARTLEPOOL v STOCKPORT COUNTY MATCH PROGRAMME NOTES 23-8-08
I hope that we are welcoming back a fair few faces to the Vic today who were not at the opening two games of the season.
The defeat at Tranmere may have brought Pools' winning
start to an end, but the football and the results in the first two home games were a joy to
behold.
It has always been a point of great humour for Poolies to mock the attendances of
your close friends and neighbours down the A66 at Darlington. Well watch out because they are nor far behind you!!
I get sick of listening to people come up with a list of excuses for not going to games any more. Some, I concede, are valid but surely those of you who have already been this season must
have been enthusing in the workplace, encouraging a few more to come today. I am still to
find anything better than being at a football game on a Saturday afternoon.
The early season games have certainly seen an improvement with regards to the "Respect" campaign. However, it is early days yet. I think the new initiatives have improved the game as a spectacle. Perhaps we will encourage the fans to stop
criticising refs next! Ha ha. That may be more difficult.
Last season, Pools found it hard against the sides that were promoted with them but
so far this season the boys who dropped into League One have been put to the sword
at the Vic.
Today sees a side who were promoted via the play-offs, Stockport County, as the
opponents. They have drawn both of their games so far this season and any side of
Jim Gannon's will always be a handful.
It can be three in a row today and then we can look forward, with confidence, to the
prospect of seeing Premier League new boys, West Brom, in the Carling Cup on
Tuesday.
