JEFF'S LEAGUE OF INJUSTICE FOR WEEKEND 23-8-08
The perception amongst fans and managers is that over the course of a
season, refereeing decisions can cost clubs dearly.
I cannot disagree with this entirely because incorrect decisions do have an effect
on results. However, so many other things go on during a game of football that also
have an effect.
However, it is popular to blame the refs for anything and everything so I will
humour you and correct scores and results based on my reading of
incidents.
Remember though, this referee's decision is final. But if you want to raise a point,
let me know by contacting me.
Jeff the Ref
************************
Lets start with a shock result with Stoke City beating heavy spending Aston Villa. This was a game littered with penalty appeals, but the best one was when it was 0-0 and Agbonlahor was dragged back as he ran into the penalty area. Ref had no chance of spotting it, but it should have been a penalty and there it ends up 3-3, a point a piece and Stoke denied their first Premier League victory.
In the Fulham v Arsenal: game, no change to the result here, but it might have been different if Fulham had played most of the game with ten men and they should have done because Pantsil should have walked for a dreadful over the top tackle on Eboue.
Liverpool v Boro: The Scousers pinched the points at the end but earlier on Skrtel blocked O'Neil in the penalty area and it would have been a "soft" penalty, but penalty it was and Boro get a deserved point at Anfield as it finishes 2-2.
Spurs v Sunderland: There were claims that Keiron Richardson handled the ball before scoring. No way it just hit him, but why he takes his shirt off and gets a daft booking I will never know. I think that it's a stupid rule anyway, but we are stuck with it and therefore surely the players can refrain from getting a daft caution.
West Brom v Everton: Usually Evertonians feel hard done by. This week they still won 2-1 but I thought the goal that was disallowed for teenager Rodwell was harsh so its 3-1 to the Blues.
Blackburn v Hull: The new boys certainly deserved a point but when Santa Cruz's shot for goal hit a defender's arm when he dived with his arms raised then that should have been a penalty and it ends 2-1 to Blackburn instead of 1-1.
Newcastle v Bolton: Newcastle fans were on my case last weekend when I claimed that they should have conceded a penalty following Milner's handball against Man United. Well surely not even the most ardent member of the "Toon army" could argue with the handball by Steven Taylor, in fact he handled it twice in the same incident. Don't worry though I am going to give Bolton another penalty. Mind you the way "Nobby" Nolan was shooting on Saturday he probably would have missed that as well.
Wigan v Chelsea: Wigan deserved something out of this game and should have had it, as a corner came in Petr Cech just pushed Boyle out of his way, a clear penalty a Wigan get a point in a 1-1 draw instead of a Chelsea victory.
Following my first column of the season I had a few emails, stating but "What if" such and such had happened? This is not an exact science, it is just me giving my view. The point I am making is that a million and one things affect the result of a game and the vast majority are nowt to do with the Ref!
If you want to offer me your point of view that's great, but if you just want to call me names then get a life. Funny how the spineless gets who do that usually use an email that you can't reply to!!!!
