TFM SOCCER SATURDAY AND THE JEFF WINTER FOOTBALL PHONE-IN 01642 616666 - 12-5-08
Recently, I said that I wanted the season to end but now I am not so sure.
There was a tremendous atmosphere at the Arena as Darlo got a late winner from IAN Miller, not Tommy Miller as our friends at the BBC named him!! The 2-1 victory was predicted by myself, both on TFM's Soccer Saturday and also on Sky Sports. Then Boro won 8-1 against Man City - a score predicted by no-one!!
I still urge you to have a look at the columns on my site and also on the TFM Radio site regarding our charity Cash for Kids. Help make a difference, please sign up to make a regular contribution via our website.
The winner of Jeff's Meat and Two Veg and the beneficiary of two complimentary Sunday carveries at TFM Radio Darlington Arena was Alison from Darlington who was listening to our show whilst sunbathing topless in the garden. She knew that Boro's newly crowned Commonwealth boxing champion, Paul Truscott, is a featherweight.
Our slot TIPS for Money saw our friends at William Hill once again give us the chance to win some money for TFM Radio's Make a Child Smile. I tipped Darlo to win 2-1 at 10/1. Surprisingly, I did not get the Boro to win 8-1. Unbelievably, Steve "The Virgin" from William Hill finally popped his cherry with two winners - a 12/1 shot backed down to 5/1 and another 5/1 winner as well!!
Incidentally if you want to take advantage of these generous odds go on to my website and click on the William Hill link to open an account. Also our predictions and tips will be posted on the charity page of my website on Wednesday.
On the Soccer or Knocker spot we had David who, along with his friends, was doing a sponsored charity parachute jump over the Sunderland area. Cue that famous song: "If I had the wings of a sparrow".
He was helping raise funds for the MDSA minibus appeal and also to help finance a recuperation swimming pool for troops returning home from active service. I won at Soccer or Knocker, a good finish to the season!!
If you fancy coming on the show and taking me on give me a shout via the contact page.
We then had David Craig from Sky Sports News on the show talking, as usual, about North-East footballing matters.
Also, in conjunction with Middlesbrough FC and their shirt sponsors Garmin Sat Nav, we gave away another of the new Boro home shirts that made their public debut in the 8-1 thrashing of Sven's boys. I wanted to know which Boro manager introduced the white band in the 70s. Obviously the answer was Big Jack Charlton. Craig won the shirt. We will have another to give away next Saturday.
I will be at Wembley this Saturday for the FA Cup Final but the show goes ahead with the help of forward planning and technology. In other words you will still hear my dulcet tones. I am still hoping to be in Manchester on Wednesday night to watch Rangers in the UEFA Cup Final - if I can get a ticket!!
Next Saturday, like every Saturday, TFM Radio will be there. So start your day off at noon with Soccer Saturday. To all the Phone-in listeners, thanks for your tremendous support this season. We will be back for the start of next season.
